Pumpkin Smash – Eldersburg Branch Library – 11/10/2018
Smashing families’ Jack O’Lanterns is a long-running, generally discouraged Halloween or mischief night tradition, similar to egging houses or toilet papering a yard.
Despite the social stigma, the Carroll County Public Library, along with the educational nonprofit Partnership of Inspiration for Engineering, Education and Entrepreneurship (or PIE3) encouraged this type of destruction with its Robot Pumpkin Smash event Monday evening at the Eldersburg branch.
Spoke to kids about robotics, what we do, the challenges we face and let them try out the demo robot.

Summer Robotics Camp – 08/06/2018 to 08/10/2018 @ Eldersburg Library
The Summer Robotics Camp at Eldersburg Library ended strong on Friday afternoon with a series of robo-battles and an epic Battle Royale. (Some repairs were necessary between battles.). This was a week-long camp!





Summer Robotics! Intro to LEGO Robotics (ages 8 – 12) – 07/16/2018 to 07/20/2018 @ CC Core
Our most popular session, now updated. This session was formerly called “LEGO Fun”, and will still include an introduction to Lego EV3 programming for Mindstorms and SuGo games, a friendly and fun competition. Some additional robotics activities and engineering challenges are also part of the fun. On the final day, teams showcase their robots and skills. No experience is needed, but those familiar with the EV3 or returning students can pursue advanced topics. Students interested in fall LEGO robotics competitions will learn about the program, and receive invitations to team formation meetings.



Summer Robotics! New! Intro to Scratch Programming (ages 8 – 12) – 07/09/2018 to 07/13/2018 @ Freedom Optimist Hall
Join the club, and start coding! This introductory session will provide a basis and get kids started on a simple and easy-to-learn platform that can lead to much more. Based on demand, follow on sessions may be planned for the fall.
Summer Robotics! Junior Robotics (ages 6 – 8) – 07/09/2018 to 07/13/2018 @ Freedom Optimist Hall
This session is intended for the youngest robotics enthusiasts, and eager builders. The session will include building simple machines using LEGOs and other materials, learning the basics of coding, and building autonomous machines using LEGO WeDO. No experience is needed. Minimum age is 6 by January 1, and completion of 1st grade is recommended.

This camp will include engineering challenges like egg drop and bridge building, guest speakers, a field trip and, of course, Lego robots and SuGo. GIRLS ONLY!

Goals:
- Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.

Eldersburg Elementary School Groovy Science Night – 02/23/2018
We introduce robotic concepts and specifically FIRST robotics to younger grade students and to the general public. Through demos and camps we give live robot demonstrations and planned activities. We find that the best method is hands-on experience, which is why we strive to let as many people as possible drive our robot, explore its inside, etc. all while maintaining a safe environment.

PIE3 Open House – 02/12/2018
Last year, the Robo-lions and Gear Freaks were literally a garage operation. Now the student-age robotics teams are working from a new space in Finksburg operated by PIE3 called Carroll County Center of Robotics and Engineering (CC-CORE). As part of the opening ceremonies county executives, sponsors and the general public were invited to the open house. Demonstrated the competition robot to guests at the event. Smaller kids interested in FTC to provided with a zippy demo robot and could drop a stack of glyphs.
