We are a community-based FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team that meets in the ARIC (Autonomous Robotics Innovation Center) building in Westminster, Maryland.

Our team, FTC 4991 Gear Freaks, has a long history in the community. The number was originally assigned to Liberty High School’s robotics team. When that team disbanded in 2012, FTC 4991 was reestablished as a community team, allowing students from across the area to participate. FTC 4991 brings together students from across Carroll County, Maryland in 7th-12th grade who share a passion for robotics, engineering, and innovation.

We are associated with Partnership for Engineering Education and Entrepreneurship (PIE3), a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to inspiring K-12 kids about Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics through robotics programs in Carroll County and surrounding areas.  PIE3 sponsors FIRST Robotics Teams at four levels, covering the entire K-12 spectrum.
